Created by the same folks who brought us Master of Orion, Master of Magic puts you in the role of a wizard bent on conquering a dark fantasy world.
From the late '80s to the mid-'90s, Microprose owned gaming in a big way with its arsenal of top-notch flight sims, compelling RPGs and in- depth strategy games. Master of Magic was an absolute refinement of the world building genre and nearly every exercise in the game, from researching new spells and gathering magical troops to exploring mysterious landmarks and building up townships, was incredibly entertaining. Perhaps the biggest step forward made by the game was the fact that it allowed players to wage war on several different dimensions simultaneously, an innovation that was also used in the Heroes of Might and Magic series and later in Civilization: Call to Power. Master of Magic Review By Michael Richter June 04, 2012I am writing this review as I listen to the music of this game. I am playing the game on windows xp with a dos emulator called dosbox and use a front loader called dos shell written by loonies software. The dosbox emulator can be picked up as free source from a developers site called Source Forge on the internet, the dos shell v 1.4 can be had from Loonies Software Group web site, also for free.
Word of caution, this game needs dos emulation and dosbox will not run on windows 95, windows 98, windows millennium, or windows 2000, it requires windows xp and I have it from a good source that dosbox will run some games on windows vista, although I have not tested it myself. This is a great game in the old turn based strategy genre. I consider it far better than any civilization games I have played for the following reason; It allows strategic play using large armies with a multitude of unique units, and, tactical play once battles are joined. Tactical play enables you to exploit the strengths of your units and the weaknesses of your opponent. It also allows you to use a combined arms effect and maneuver to out wit and defeat an enemy that might seam to have the numerical and strength advantage. There are only a handful of such games that give this kind of detail to tactical battles during strategic maneuver.
I rated this game a 5 for game play for this very reason. Even after 12 years of ownership this game is still one of my top 10s, a true classic. This game can be played without the cd, straight from the hard drive, if you set it up correctly. Dos box has a configuration file that you can open with windows note pad and is very straight forward and forgiving.
If you play from the cd you can add lines to the bottom of the dosbox configuration file like an autoexec. When you cast the CREATE ARTIFACT spell, go to staff, select spell charges, then choose your spell of choice and its power.
Afterwards, click on the spell charge option again to delete the spell charge. Then make a weapon as you normally would, but don't add another spell charge.

When your item is created it will have whatever enchantments you gave it plus the spell charge. With this trick you can have up to FIVE enhancements on a weapon at a time! The only problem is that your hero will only use the spell charges when you hit the 'AUTO' button in battle. When using the ENCHANT ITEM or CREATE ARTIFACT spell you can make a super powerful artifact by naming it, giving it the 4 enchants, and then before you click ok, click on a 5th enchant. It should say you may not have more than 4 enchants on an item. You will notice that the name of the artifact has changed to what the warning said. 'no more than four enchantments on an artifact'. Don't fix the name, and click ok.

When the artifact is done you will have a super artifact. Note: you should only make one of these artifacts for each hero, or instead of giving maxed out stats it will give 0 stats, taking away what they already had. There is nothing worse than getting emails frompeople who saw an old version asking about things that are already in thenewer versions. Well, maybe there are worse things, but it IS annoying!Welcome to the Master of Magic (MOM) FAQ. This FAQ is largely anaccumulation of 'wisdom of the net' posted by various authors.
Thanks toall who posted. This FAQ also draws on an earlier FAQ, based on MOM v1.1,written by Dave Chaloux. I salute Dave for his admirable work. Materialfrom Dave's FAQ is attributed with a 'DC'.Because MOM 1.31 is fairly new, some of this FAQ is based on earlierversions of MOM. I've tried to fix or remove anything not consistent withMOM 1.31, but some pre-MOM-1.31-isms probably remain.Note: Text is not identical to original posts. Often I merge similar ideasfrom several posts, but may only attribute the primary source. Many thanks to my great reviewers, including: Jay Barnett, Rob Buchner,Dave Chaloux, Dan Hite, Nai-Chi Lee, Brian Wade, Rhonda Wilson, and'DriveBy Billy' (spido@clark.net).

Out of all the Master of Magic mod/remake projects, Implode's Multiplayer Edition of Master of Magic is by far the most impressive and most complete I've seen, as his project is pretty much the only one still going these days! After over a decade of hard work his game is now totally independent of the original MoM game meaning you can just download and play it without needing the original files. He's added huge amounts of customization and information not seen in the original MoM game. HD/High resolution gameplay is of course available and even multiplayer games against up to THIRTEEN other players! I prefer single player myself so I'm very excited about the possibility of fighting against 13 AI players in a massive slaughterfest across 2 massive worlds (yes the dark world Myrran is there too)!
The author hasn't had much help recently and is looking for testers and help. Implode's project files are now freely accessible here on sourceforge so if you're a big Master of Magic fan then try out his latest work in progress build, visit his forums and give him some feedback & support.
I filmed a video of myself testing the 2015 0.9.6.3 build and started a game against 13 AI's (although they don't do much yet) and I was able to build cites, units, attack neutrals, conquer nodes etc. Very very fun! PART 1 VIDEO: youtu.be/6416lEDcLVc PART 2 VIDEO: youtu.be/gepiu3CfWOA. Implode's Multiplayer Edition (IME) of the early Master of Magic (MoM) game will make a great game even better than the original, imho. Because it's in the middle stage of development it may not have all the spells & features put in just yet, but MoM IME can still consume days or maybe weeks of playtime.
It stands as a very good playable demo of even more to come!Support is very easy and direct, one can put in tickets here, or start a thread on the game's larger forum and get a good response either way.
